WELCOME TO IEA BIOENERGY TASK 36 2025-2027!
IEA Bioenergy Task 36 has recently launched its new programme for 2025-2027 which will explore how circular economy initiatives along the waste and energy value chains influence the deployment of bioenergy. Keep reading for more details!
TASK 36 LAUNCHES ITS NEW PROGRAMME FOR 2025-2027!
IEA Bioenergy Task 36 has officially kicked off the new triennium! The 2025–2027 programme has been shaped by both global trends and national priorities of the participating countries and focuses on how circular economy initiatives across the waste and energy value chains can drive the deployment of bioenergy. The three key focus areas for this triennium are:
- Waste Management and System Analyses. Provide science-based information that can be used for the development of the waste management systems in a circular economy covering policy, technology, and socio-economic aspects. Sub-topics included in this area: Policy analysis, Advance sorting Technologies, and Social impacts and benefits from using biowaste in bioenergy production.
- Feedstock. Exploring residual streams for opportunities for energy and material valorization. Sub-topics included in this area: Opportunities for valorization of biodegradable organic waste and underutilize residual streams that could be used for energy and material production.
- New Technology Pathways. Evaluating new technologies pathways for reducing climate impact in processes where residual streams are used as feedstock for energy production. Sub-topics included in this area: The potential of Carbon Capture and utilisation (CCU) from Waste-to-Energy and Energy Transition in Emerging Economies: India.
In addition, Task 36 will lead the IEA Bioenergy Inter-task project Expanding the resource base for energy and products where together with Tasks 32, 33, 34, 43 and 45 will explore the use of underutilized, low-value residual streams that could be used for bioenergy or material recovery but today mainly go to incineration.
The countries participating in Task 36 are Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden and US, and we give a warm welcome to India that joins the task for the first time! Want to learn more about the experts involved in Task 36? Click here.
