TASK 36 FIRST IN-PERSON MEETING OF THE TRIENNIUM
This September, Task 36 kicked off its first in-person meeting of the new triennium in Gothenburg, Sweden, hosted by RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden. The three-day gathering (2–4 September) featured two site visits. The first one to RENOVA’s world-unique zinc recovery facility located at the Sävenäs waste-to-energy plant. This innovative plant extracts zinc from incineration fly ash, showcasing cutting-edge circular economy practices in action. The second one to the Chalmers Power Central, a facility focused on carbon capture and biomass gasification.
In connection with the meeting, Task 36 organized a dynamic networking session titled “Building Bridges in IEA – Fostering Collaborations Across TCPs and Tasks”. Held on 2 September, the session brought together members from IEA Bioenergy Tasks 36 Material and Energy Valorization of Waste in a Circular Economy and Task 40 Deployment of biogenic value chains and carbon management, and TCP IETS-Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems represented by Tasks XI Industry-based biorefineries towards sustainability and Task XXI Net-zero Industrial Processes in a Circular Economy Framework. A key takeaway was the shared interest in carbon management, identified as a promising area for future joint initiatives across the participating groups.
