IEA Bioenergy Task 36 (Material and Energy valorisation of waste in a Circular Economy) has hosted its second regional workshop on sustainability indicators pertaining to waste resource and energy recovery. The purpose of this workshop is to convene experts on the various pillars of sustainability and how the priorities of North American projects compare elsewhere around the world.

The workshop features presentations from experts in the economic, environmental and social aspects of organic/plastic waste management, and then a facilitated breakout discussion as part of each session. Following each presentation, there are brief breakout discussions to compile and identify priority areas in the space. Experts from non-profit and municipal sectors are particularly welcomed to participate in this workshop. This workshop is a virtual workshop and attendance is free.

The results from this workshop, as well as the other regional workshops will be compiled into a report exploring how these sustainability priorities are driving different decision-making across the world. The final workshop in this regional series will take place late 2023 in Dublin, Ireland.
