Dr Fionnuala Murphy<\/p>\n
Assistant Professor Dr Fionnuala Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the UCD School of Biosystems & Food Engineering and is UCD Programme Director of the MSc in Bioeconomy with Business. Her research focuses on life cycle assessment modelling for the analysis of environmental impacts of a range of production systems, with a special interest in biomass waste-to-energy systems. Dr Murphy’s work aims to understand, quantify and analyse complex environmental exchanges resulting from waste valorisation technology deployment across the full value chain. Dr Murphy has is leading national and EU research in the development of sustainable energy and the circular bioeconomy. Nationally, she is leading \u2018ABC Economy\u2019 to develop new sustainable value chains for the circular bioeconomy in Ireland by maximising value and minimising environmental impacts through cascading of biomass for production of biobased products and energy. On an EU level she is Coordinating the AgRefine MSCA ITN and is Principal Investigator on; BBI-JU AgriChemWhey \u2018An integrated biorefinery for the conversion of dairy by-products to high value bio-based chemicals\u2019 and BBI-JU SpiralG \u2018Production of Phycocyanin from the Spirulina Arthrospira Sp. Revisiting the Sourcing, Extraction and Co-Valorization of the Whole Algae in the Frame of an Industrial Biorefinery Concept\u2019.<\/p>\n My expectations in the triennium 2019 \u2013 2021 of Ireland\u2019s participation in IEA Bioenergy Task 36 are to contribute to knowledge transfer within the Task Group and to learn from other Task Members experiences in implementing innovative solutions to maximise energy and resource recovery within a circular economy perspective. It is expected that Ireland\u2019s participation in this Task will raise awareness of the range of current and emerging technological pathways for sustainable waste management towards achieving climate goals and developing the circular economy. My key interests in this triennium lie in using life cycle assessment methodologies to determine the best use of waste feedstocks to achieving national and EU recycling, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.
