A bio:

Dieter holds a chair in High Temperature Process Engineering at the KIT faculty of Chemical Engineering and is head of the Institute for Technical Chemistry. His main fields of expertise are thermochemical conversion of waste to chemicals, of waste to energy and of biogenic energy carriers. He focusses on pyrolysis, gasification, and combustion technology research as well as on techno-economical process evaluation and energy system analysis. Prof. Stapf has over 20 years of working experience with thermochemical processing in industry and academia.

IEA expectations:

My expectations in this triennium of Germany’s participation to the IEA bioenergy task 36 are to contribute to the implementation of a circular economy by replacing fossil feedstocks with sustainable biomass and by secondary raw materials resulting from end-of-life goods. In each of the IEA member countries, clarification of the role of waste management to achieving the global climate and environmental goals is essential. My key interests herein ly with chemical recycling of mixed plastics wastes and with co-processing of waste and biomass both to close the carbon cycle.
