A bio:

Mar is a researcher in the field of waste management with more than 12 years of experience.  She works in projects aiming to improving waste handling for achieving an efficient use of the resources. Her main interest is on solid waste composition and the effect that the minimization of waste generation will have on it in the future;  but she has also worked with thermal processes, mainly WtE, of different types of waste (MSW, CDW, CIW) and formation of organic pollutants

She works for RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), in a group called “Resources from Waste”. Since 2018, Mar has been involved in the IEA Bioenergy Task 36 Material and Energy Valorisation of Waste in a Circular Economy, and is task leader for the on-going triennium. Her background is in chemical engineering and she got her Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry at Umeå University (Sweden) in 2016.

IEA expectations:

The members of IEA Bioenergy Task 36 for the triennium 2022-2024 represent countries all over the world with completely different approaches to Waste-to-energy. Being part of this task is a great opportunity for me to look at Waste-to-energy from another perspective than the Swedish one. I am expecting to exchange valuable knowledge; identify opportunities and barriers for the development of the Waste-to-energy sector and figure out together which will be the role of Waste-to-energy in a circular economy in each country member. I am looking forward to participating in discussions with this group of experts!
